PREAMBLE
Two years ago at a dinner, accompanying my partner at a work event, I met Lee-Ann who was in Malta for her yearly Sigma visit.
The conversation revolved around my partner and her shared profession, filled with words, verbs, elaborate expressions, Pindaric flights, jokes, and deductions that were completely unfamiliar and puzzling to me. I simply listened while continuing to eat.
As dessert was served, they grew weary of talking about work and finally relaxed. Lee-Ann then inquired about my work, and I showed her my art. She immediately took a liking to it, mentioning its potential to thrive and spread quickly across the internet. We bid farewell with a heartfelt, genuine South African hug. It was a wonderful source of encouragement for me to keep painting!
ACTION!
Two years later, we learned that Lee-Ann would be returning to Malta November. Fueled by the positive energy we had shared, I decided to surprise her with a new painting. I recalled her previous admiration for my artwork, particularly her appreciation of the vibrant colors and the dynamic nature of my pieces. She found that my paintings revealed different aspects each time they were viewed, creating a sense of movement within the stillness of the canvas. This presented an exciting challenge for me, leading to the creation of Jelly Flame - a fusion of jellyfish, flames, water symbolizing the soul, and fire representing passion.
“I like the abstract type ones where you can’t really see what it is but every time you look at it you see something new.
I’d like to have it bring in partnerships and collaboration because that is what my spirit is all about. Giving with an open heart to help those that need it.” (Lee-Ann Johnstone, CEO & Founder, Affiverse)
